Randolf Arriola, Guitar, Loops

Born and raised in Singapore, Randolf is a self-taught veteran musician with over 20 years of live performance experience. He specialises in live looping, a unique music-making and performance method where he creates processed loops of sound with his voice and guitar and layers them to create intricately arranged soundscapes and compositions.

Considered one of the finest solo live looping artists in the word, Randolf Arriola creates music that is weaved from a fabric of the familiar and obscure and the simple and complex. No prerecorded material is used. Each live performance is an ever-changing organism, powered by his own creative intentions and the interactions between him and the audience.

Widely regarded all around by peers in music, entertainment, education and art circles both in Singapore and abroad, Randolf recently headlined the Y2K10 International Live Looping Festival with three others in a USA tour that featured 75 artists. Currently plying his trade as the resident artist at the popular Singapore watering hole Harry’s, he has earned respect and recognition all over for his fearless creativity and innovation in creating music that reaches out and touches any listener.

Per Boysen, Chapman Stick, Loops

“I play music that is open, improvising, breathtaking and sometimes a complete failure!”

Swedish multi instrumentalist and “electronician” Per Boysen is a crossover crusader that loves music, but not genres. Enthusiastic listeners have hinted at “EAM”, “Nu-Jazz”, “Psychedelic” or “Minimal” while some refer to “Sound Art”. On stage Per plays interactive electronics driven by an acoustic/mechanic/electric instrument. The palette spans the Alto Traverse Flute, the Tenor Sax, the Fretless Harp Guitar, the Chapman Stick, Stick Guitar or the EWI (Electric Wind Instrument). Everything interconnected as a self designed meta instrument.

“Among the many festival highlights was Swedish guitarist and flute/wood-wind player Per Boysen’s Jon Hassel-like soundscapes” (Guitar Player Magazine, USA)

“Per Boysen’s live looped ambience music with layers over layers of sax- and flute melodies was a real experience, and it was obvious that he is utilizing the electronics as his personal expression without being a slave to the technology.” (Smålandsposten, Sweden)

Per Boysen has performed many live-looping shows around Europe and the US, both as a solo performer and with ensembles. He is fond of multi media based collaborations, as for example when the Italian Festival Internazionale di Andria Castel dei Mondi provided the budget for assembling the temporary quartet Boysen Network Ensemble in order to to make a micro opera with amplified painting canvas percussionist and musicians clamped with cameras projecting on big screens. He is also active as a media music composer, having produced recordings of surround music, mixed records for bands and creative remixing for special record label releases.

Georgina Brett, Vocals, Loops

Georgina Brett’s music is created using her voice and effects pedals, creating instant choirs of sound often in an hypnotic style. The point of this music is not only to captivate with extraordinary timing and melodic style but also to help the listener to relax, in our ever increasingly fast world. Her latest album is a double album of vocal works with no lyrics. highlighting the voice as an instrument, and as a vehicle for emotional expression. “So much music is to make us feel something so as to manipulate, buy or to follow.. this album let’s your thought be whatever they want to be.” Intellectually, Georgina’s music adheres to some modernist principles but using harmonious parameters, instead of the more dissonant style of it’s post-WW2 exponants. Georgina’s music is also gradually becoming a great vehicle for more experimental work delving into expressive work which plays with the rich world of the media, politics, history, using matrices, semiotics and phonetics.

In the last 2 years Georgina has performed; in Germany at the 2011 Cologne Live-looping Festival, in USA at the Santa Cruz 2011 live-looping Festival, in Italy at the Florence 2012 Live-looping Festival. Here in the UK; she hosts a monthly night of experimental music in West London called TuesdaysPost, has played at Buddhafield festival 2011 and the 2012 Penarth Live-looping Festival as well as numerous art gallery events.

Many artists have remixed tracks by Georgina there are at least 20 remix tracks to date.

Also Georgina works with 2 other artists on a unique album of electro-acoustic music based on her free interpretation of “Frere Jaques” the well known Nursery Rhyme, to be released this Autumn.

Georgina is classically trained with a BMus and an MA in Aesthetics and Composition. One of her tracks featured on the Bowieart website supporting a video of Gavin Turk exhibition. She sang in Stockhausen’s Momente at the QEH, supplied vocals for the band Alabama3 and oboe for Youth of the band Killing Joke.
